Want a hospo job with a furry twist that's pawsitively good for your soul and helps rescue cats? Keep reading!
We are looking for an outgoing, hardworking and reliable hospitality superstar to join us as a part-time Visitor Experience Assistant over the upcoming summer holidays.
This is a multi-faceted, customer-facing role which requires a mature individual with strong interpersonal skills, good social awareness, and bucket loads of charisma. In addition, your CV must clearly show us you have current / recent experience from working in a café, bar and/or restaurant and have worked as a barista (minimum 6 months).
While a love for cats is a given and you'll be working with them, please note this job is NOT to hang out with our cats. Your primary responsibility is to look after our guests, ensuring they have a positive visitor experience - something we are well known for. You will be confident in striking meaningful conversations, advocating for what we do and rescue cats, as well as wider cat topics. Other tasks include coffee and food preparation, point of sale, and cleaning.
Our busiest days of trade are the weekends so you must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays. As with any hospo job, you will be working on a rotating roster. Over the holiday period you will be working 3 shifts (approx. 10-15 hours, days vary but will include at least one weekend day) and outside of this you will be working weekends (both Saturdays and Sundays).
To be considered, along with your CV, you must also craft and send us a compelling cover letter telling us a bit about yourself and explaining how you are:
a proven self-starter with bucket loads of initiative and is happy to get stuck in, no matter what the task, often going the extra mile
a natural people person who thrives in a customer-facing role, comfortable interacting with anyone and everyone including large groups
a fast, flexible learner who is used to the changeable pace of working in hospo so can adapt and work effectively under pressure
a team player who can work independently but is also motivated to working collaboratively to ‘get the job done’
a clean freak as a big part of the job is keeping our space neat and tidy
a barista whiz, familiar with the standard coffee offering and comfortable operating a commercial coffee machine
a passionate advocate for our feline friends, in particular being knowledgeable about and actively engaged in cat welfare / wellness
Cat handling experience, sharing our ethos, and being already familiar with who we are and our furry family would be highly advantageous.
While this is not an entry-level position, we are offering a starting out wage. Please be aware we are a small, independently run social enterprise so all proceeds gets reinvested back into the business and contributes towards our cats’ care.
Given the intricacies of the role and the level of training involved, we are looking for people seeking long-term employment, not just a stop gap. Consequently, this position will be well suited to someone looking for a second job to supplement their existing income.
If you tick the above boxes, email us your CV and cover letter to workingwithcatsnz@gmail.com by 10pm, Monday 27 January.
To recap, to be considered you must:
Submit a CV that shows you have current / recent hospitality experience - including having worked as a barista (minimum 6 months).
Include a well-considered cover letter convincing us why you think you'd be purrrfect for this role. Please also include your availability as well as at least 2 work references.
This is a pawsome opportunity to join NZ’s longest running cat café, advocate for rescue cats, and connect with people over your mutual love for cats. Apply meow!
